Those early jobs and quality service led to more work and bigger projects. SES helped establish several water and sewer districts and quickly gained a reputation as a company that could be depended on to get the job done. In only one year they had to move the office into a larger space with more room for additional staff.
The business continued to expand and in the summer of 2000 two major events took place that has molded the company into what it is today. First, Bob Summers, a graduate of Georgia Tech, was hired in as an E.I.T. and proved to be a vital asset to the clients and the company. Secondly, to accommodate the increasing number of new staff and expanded laboratory needs, SES purchased and built a new modern, state of the art office building/laboratory just west of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Over the next several years SES had to find additional engineers and technicians in order to keep up with the increased demand for their services. Each year they added new clients and worked on larger and larger projects. As their reputation for delivering projects on time and under budget grew, more and more communities sought their help with their water and sewer projects. MoDOT also became a major customer for SES along with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). MoDOT and the Corps had them assist with some very large road and flood control jobs. Additionally, private contractors began to have SES help design and survey proposed subdivisions and major commercial developments.
To keep up with the growing demand for their services, SES opened branch offices at the Lake of the Ozarks and Branson, Missouri. These new offices allowed them to provide services not only to customers in Southeast Missouri but also to those in Central and Southwest Missouri. Through all the expansion of services, locations and new personnel, one thing remained the same. Stan insisted on putting the customer’s needs above all else.
Surveying, site development, sewer and water system design and materials testing continued to be the backbone of the services offered when Bob Summers was made a partner in 2007. Bob was exactly the kind of partner a growing firm like SES needed. He knew the customers, understood the needed services and had the same goal as Stan- doing whatever the customer needed. The name was changed to Schultz and Summers Engineering and the new leadership team continued to position SSE as one of the top Civil Engineering Companies in Missouri.
In 2009 SSE opened a materials testing laboratory in New Orleans in response to all the USACE levee work that was being done. This was a perfect fit for the company since they had an outstanding relationship with the USACE in Missouri where they had gained an excellent reputation for running quality labs and producing accurate construction materials test results.
The laboratory was quickly validated by the USACE and soon after SSE was approved for a Blank Purchase Agreement by the USACE. With the huge demand for testing services the Corps seemed excited to have a reputable company with a track record for accurate results conducting tests in the New Orleans area.
In a short time SSE has proven to large contractors such as Archer Western, Tetra Tech, Southern Services, L&S CKY and Phillips & Jordan that they are a reliable partner when it comes to testing construction materials. The SSE name and reputation for putting the customers needs first has continued to make their services highly sought after not only in Missouri, but in New Orleans as well.
Back in 2003 and again in 2009 SSE was recognized by as one of the fastest growing businesses in America. The rapid growth and continued recognition is a direct result of putting customers needs first.
Since 1997 Schultz and Summers Engineering has seen many changes. They have moved into larger buildings, expanded into new regions and hired more engineers and technicians. The one constant that has not changed is their commitment to customer service. Every employee working at SSE understands that their highest priority each day is to keep their customers happy. That attitude helped SSE grow in 1997 and it has continued to bring SSE success today.
